The MTSE organized a design competition for a 15-story building which it intends to build on a 5,000sqm plot of land it owns in down town Addis Ababa. The building was to accommodate MTSE Head office, an apartment complex, a high class restaurant, a multi-purpose hall and an assembly hall. National Consultants design was ranked 1st by the competition jury.

National’s design solution for the 200 person assembly hall is a building separate from the tower block but connected by a pedestrian bridge. The functional arrangement of the assembly hall and the volumetric composition of the office complex were among the important factors that led to the selection of a hexagonal shaped of assembly hall. The column free requirement led the Architects at National to select a 24m span concrete dome roof with semi-circular vault protrusions for natural light and entrances.

The Ethiopian Insurance Corporation organized a design competition for the Head Office Building in Addis Ababa. Five consultants, including one from abroad, participated. National Consultant’s submission was placed first and the firm was hired to implement the project, including the construction management.

The marble clad edifice is one of the most prominent buildings in Addis Ababa. It consists of a low rise building structure which forms a platform from which a 12-story tower block leaps. The building is characterized by its horizontal 'Bris Solei' which effectively shields its curtain wall from the west, south west and east sun.

The structure consists of a tower block of thirteen stories, two lower blocks housing the Life Branch and Finance Division. The Structural system is made up of reinforced concrete elements, beams and columns formed into frames, hollow block slabs, domes and folded plates. Due to the adverse subsurface soil conditions of pile foundations were used. The complex included shops and a two-level parking facility in a total built-up area of 13,000m2.

National Consultant's design for the new Water Resources Authority head office Complex was the winner of a national design competition. National provided a design solution within which the Rural Water Resources Agency, The Urban Water and Sewage Agency and Land and Water Studies Agency (three semi-autonomous agencies under The Ethiopian Water Resources) are arranged in three separate blocks to maintain their autonomous character while sharing a common hall way. The complex comprises 10,575 m2 of office space, 1050m2 of Laboratory space and a 750m2 multi-purpose hall.
